Cattles like cow and buffaloes are grass-eating animals. These animals swallow grass and store it in one part of their stomach for a period of time. Amoeba is single-celled shapeless organisms belonging to the class protozoa (Figure 2.3). They are usually present in shallow pond water. Amoeba possesses cell organelles like vacuoles along with dense cytoplasm enclosed within a cell membrane. Amoeba is capable of producing false arms, called the pseudopodia when the organism detects food nearby. The pseudopodium traps in the food by enclosing the arms around the prey. The food is packed into a food vacuole and ingested inside the cell membrane of the organism. Inside the cell membrane, the food vacuole is broken down by various digestive enzymes present inside the cell environment, resulting simpler substances ready to be absorbed. Eventually, the absorbed nutrients are utilized for the reproduction, growth and maintenance functions.
